Devon is located in the South West corner of England. The county has borders with Cornawall to the West and Dorset and Somerset to the East. The overall population of the county is around 1,100,000. Devon is split into 10 main areas which included, Exeter, East Devon, Mid Devon, North Devon, Torridge, West Devon, South Hams, Teignbridge, Plymouth and Torbay. The county town of Devon is Exeter. Other main towns in the county include, Barnstaple, Honiton, Newton Abbot, Plymouth and Torquay.
Exeter is the county town however Plymouth is the most inhabited town within the county.
Devon has a great history and was once a great producer of tin and copper, fishing and farming. Devon is a popular tourist destination with people travelling to see its wonderful countryside and rural towns and villages, plus enjoy the vast coast line to the North and South of the County. Torbay is one of the most popular areas which comprises of Torquay, Paington and Brixham.
The main links into the county by road are using the M5 which terminates at Exeter. Another major road within the county is the A30 which runs from Exeter through Cornwall. The county has a good rail network and has main stations at Taunton, Exeter, St Davids, Plymouth, Truro and Penzance. There are routes through to the North of England and the Midlands (Birmingham), London Paddington and Waterloo. There are also air links which run from Exeter, Newquay and Plymouth.
