Durham is a county based in the North East of England.  The county town of County Durham is Durham.  The population of the County is around 900,000 people.  The county is split into ten distinct areas including Durham City, Easington, Sedgefield, Teesdale, Wear Valley, Chester-le-Street, Derwentside, Hartlepool, Stockton-on-Tees and Darlington.

County Durham borders onto the North Sea and has a varying landscape including the dales and moors of the Pennines, the majority of the population of the county are built up around the coastal regions.   County Durham has a rich history and heritage with Roman remains and Hadrians Wall.  The county is renowned for its coastline with beaches, villages and seaside Holiday resorts such as Whitley Bay.

Travel to the county is good with A1M motorway being the main route into the county.  Air travel is served by the Newcastle International Airport and rail links are served from London, Glasgow and Edinburgh with an excellent main line and cross country rail service.  If your fancy lies further afield then ferry travel to Scandinavia operate from the South Shields Ferry Port.
