Properties to rent throughout the UK
Since it’s beginnings in the Iron Age, Lincoln has been through many phases of development, decline and redevelopment throughout its history. The Romans were the first to conquer the town when they invaded this part of England in AD 48 and built a fort on top of the hill overlooking the Brayford Pool (a stretch of the River Witham) at the northern end of the Fosse Way. By the end of the 5th Century, the Romans had largely moved on to York and the city fell into decline and was almost deserted. However, after the Vikings invaded in the 8th to 11th Centuries, Lincoln once more became an important trading centre and even minted its own money. The Norman Conquest saw yet another authority having an impact on Lincoln and it was at this time that the Castle was built on the same site as the Roman fort.
